EBRPSS has announced that their plan for the start of the 2020-21 SY is to allow parents to decide whether their children will participate in hybrid learning (2 days of face-to-face and 3 days of virtual learning) or virtual classes. Though this plan specifies that schools will undergo a “deep clean” on Wednesdays, the plan is for custodians to simply clean high-touch areas. There is no mention of disinfectant fogging of classrooms and common areas to kill aerosolized germs or any other plans that align with current COVID-19 cleaning practices. There is also no mention of certifying that custodians are trained in virus eradication practices and cleaning methods.
Additionally, the plan also puts unreasonable demands on educators:
- To ensure that students remain socially distant at all times (during classes, transitions, lunch, etc.)
- To ensure that students wash their hands adequately, according to CDC guidelines
- There are no mask requirements for students in Pre-K through 2nd grade, and they are only strongly recommended, not required, for student in 3rd through 12th.
- To clean desks and doorknobs during transition times
In response to the concerns listed, and many more, we are working with LAE and other education stakeholders to have a silent protest. We need our School Board Members/Decision Makers to create policies that put LIVES BEFORE DOLLARS! See the graphic for details. SEE YOU WEDNESDAY AT 4:00!
